MOE ExCEL Fest first began as a WITs (Work Improvement Teams) Day in 1997 for MOE staff to celebrate the spirit of continuous improvement. In 2001, the event was renamed MOE ExCEL Day to reflect the focus of the Innovation and Enterprise (I&E) spirit in our schools and people.
The event became a festival (MOE ExCEL Fest, as it is known today) in 2005 when the organizers invited parents and the public to join in the event for the first time. MOE ExCEL Fest today is a much anticipated event on the education calendar and visitorship has grown tremendously over the years.
MOE ExCEL Fest 2005. Innovate Schools!
In 2005, the event grew from an excel Day to the very first MOE ExCEL Fest. This new theme better reflected the overarching spirit of celebration of I&E in schools. Learning and sharing opportunities were extended to more schools. It was also the first time that we invited parents and the public to join in the event. The 2-day event, held on 1-2 July 2005 at Suntec City saw more than 50,000 participants!
MOE ExCEL Fest 2006. Touching Hearts, Engaging Minds
Following the success of the 2005 event, MOE ExCEL Fest 2006 was also opened to the public. To cater to the even larger number of participants, including all 26,000 teachers, the event was decentralised over 22 locations in Singapore. This was attended by over 60,000 teachers, parents and members of the public.
MOE ExCEL Fest 2007. Nurture Lives, Make Our Future
Held on 13th July 2007 at Singapore Chinese Girls' School, the event was specially catered for MOE staff. Although this was a small-scale internal event, it attracted 7,000 staff to celebrate, share and learn from each other's work improvement and innovation.
MOE ExCEL Fest 2008. Nurturing Every Child for the Future
This 2 day event was held on 4th and 5th July 2008 at Suntec City. Friday 4th July was for MOE staff and educators while Saturday 5th July extended the invitations to parents and the public. 80 schools set up highly engaging exhibition booths to showcase how their schools were innovating for the future. In additional, several "special-invite" booths also participated, most notable were Science Center's planetarium and MOE's very own pavilion.
While the exhibition hall was filled with these activities, 23 meeting rooms across levels 2 and 3 of SICEC were packed with 138 Sharing and Classroom sessions.
MOE ExCEL Fest 2010. Every Child Ready for the World
The main theme for MOE ExCEL Fest 2010, "Every Child Ready for the World" revolves around our belief that we live in an increasingly "global village", where people work, live and play across geographic borders. In our schools, we strive to nurture confident children, independent learners and caring citizens who are ready to take on the world! Our goal is to equip every child with the mindsets, values and skills that will enable them to excel in the 21st century.
At MOE ExCEL Fest 2010, we showcase how our schools are preparing our children for life and for the world in 4 sub themes:
This is IT!
Infocomm Technology (ICT) transforms the teaching and learning experiences in our schools. Our Third Masterplan for ICT in Education (mp3) marks the next exciting leg of our journey in incorporating ICT in learning and teaching.
On your mark, get ready... Go Global!
From overseas learning journeys to twinning alliances with foreign schools, opportunities abound for our students to experience the diverse cultures of the world and forge international friendships, broadening their horizons to appreciate the world.
Learning out of the box
There is great vibrancy in our schools. A myriad of activities are taking place in our classrooms. Our teachers are always innovating and engaging our students in ingenious ways.
CharacterPlus
We want our students to be confident children, independent learners and caring citizens. Our schools seek to prepare our students for life with lessons in leadership, character building, and social and emotional learning.
